Sweat Like It's 1899

Lately, I've been looking at those herbal detox products.  They claim to help get the pollutants and additives out of your system.  I haven't actually purchased any of them yet, but I've been tempted.  Ultimately, I've remained skeptical because I don't believe in adding any medications that aren't absolutely necessary to my body, and that includes herbs.  Really, herbs might be even dicier because they haven't gone through the same level of scientific study.  I barely trust science.  I'm certainly not going to trust hocus pocus hippie feel-good theories over science.

I do, however, want to get the junk out of my system.  It seems to me (not through scientific study but through my own hippie theories) that the quickest path to that has three main steps:  (1)  Cut junk out of your diet; (2) Drink a lot of water (purified, of course); (3) Sweat a lot.  While the sweating plan might not win a whole lot of friends at the office, I'm convinced it's essential to flushing the oogies out of the system.

Not that I'm a big fan.  I'm all for the 21st century lifestyle of poking around inside air conditioned buildings all day and avoiding feeling uncomfortable at all costs, but really.  Who doesn't recognize how ludicrous this is?

When I started school in the early 70s, the school year began after Labor Day because it was too hot.  I don't even remember what year it was when the schools got air conditioning, but let's say 1978 for a nice even 30 years.  In only 30 years we've actually evolved into a species unable to tolerate natural heat.  Amazing.  I shudder to think how far removed from the "real world" our kind will be after another 30 years of technologically supplemented lives.

At any rate, now that it's cooling off a little outside, I'm going to make a vow to get more outdoor exercise.  Starting tomorrow.  Today I bumped the thermostat down and did my sweating on the treadmill.  :)
